Random Acts of Urban Photography

About the Project

Walk with a sense of wonder at the beauty of the everyday.

Random acts of urban photography is a personal project exploring and sharing the overlooked beauty that surrounds us all. Transient, occurring at all scales, in plain sight yet largely unobserved, these salvaged moments document not only the elegance of the immediate scene, but in many cases reveal evidence of the processes behind how they came to be. A delicate curl of delaminated paint, the waterfall of rust launching a rivet, entropy in action.

Wherever possible, the images were carefully made into cards and posted anonymously to the unknown owner of the location where the picture was taken. This act of sharing random nuggets of beauty with others goes, I hope, beyond merely an exchange of trinkets.

Could a tiny, but significant change have occurred in both giver and receiver? An awareness of something new or unexpected? A nascent feeling of connection perhaps, but with no-one specific to connect it to. Or everyone?

With the expectation of beauty in mind, disappointments are rare.
